Filmmaker's Note
Pyxis has been one of the most enjoyable short films I have directed to date and with the help of our talented cinematographer Alex Beehoo, we were able to really play with techniques and styles to create something mysterious, exciting and hopefully entertaining.
The idea behind Pyxis was to mirror the main characters emotions with that of the audience. The central theme of the box becomes an obsession to the character Jane and thus, the audience also becomes obsessed with what might be inside. As a director, I tried to build this tension throughout the film, to the point where the audience, much like Jane, has to know what’s inside the mysterious box.
I played on many themes while directing this film and I’m sure people with notice subtle nods to films such as Pulp Fiction & Kiss me Deadly, but the main ambition for this project was to keep people guessing. I wanted to create a film that the audience would still be thinking about and potentially talking about with their friends long after the credits had rolled.
