Noturno
Synopsis
By juxtaposing images as in an assemblage the film brings two characters together, a foreign man and a girl from a Germany’s small village, that have more in common than it would be expected in the first sight: the interest for photography, the loneliness and an out of the social context life.

Filmmaker's Note
Noturno is a film about being observed by someone without knowing it. It is about looking and being looked at. And more specifically is about how women are constantly been observed by other men all the time. Noturno is also inclined towards the Gothic’s fascination with the instability of objects, uncanny visions and confusion surrounding the intentions of the male character. The film is asking to the audience: is the hero intending to kiss the heroine or to kill her?
Noturno could be categorized not as a proper genre film, but as a film that borrows recognizable iconography from various sources – other films, literature, visual arts and also contemporary iconography like music videos and fashion - using them to create a completely new piece of work, creating a connection with the public used to this movie genre. It has a very simple plot and focus more on the mood, atmosphere and character development, showing the characters through a more objective yet also more intimate point of view. Important events are not shown on screen but revealed through the characters’ behavior and a collection of impressions that leads the viewer to a journey of free association. The pace of the narrative is slow in a way to approximate real time for the audience with a contemplative tone, featuring extended silent scenes and prolonged shots.
Shooting a genre movie requires a specific way of lighting and editing that affects directly the final aesthetic result, which I intent to develop as a personal style in the future for my subsequent works. While I do not want to give up my artistic background, my main interest is not to produce video art but rather, art movies.
