Le Sniper
Synopsis
The critically acclaimed 2012 French short film Le Sniper is a dialogue-free, 4-minute thriller directed by Yoann Garel. It follows a music-loving hitman who positions himself on a Parisian rooftop to wait for his target and passes the time by using his scope to voyeuristically observe the residents of the building across the street. The film gained notoriety for its brilliant editing, claustrophobic POV shots, and unexpected, musical plot twist. Rather than a standard action or war movie, the short leans heavily into drama and suspense, contrasting the cold nature of the sniper's weapon with the passionate, intimate lives he spies through his rifle's lens.
