Filmmaker's Note
After my first short film "The Weekend" went on to earn 47 Official Selections and win 30 Film Festival Awards I thought "Hey...you should probably keep doing this." So what do I follow up such a heavy, heart wrenching drama with?
A comedy about death. And french fries. Specifically french fries covered in gravy and cheese.
After completing "Death (And Disco Fries)" I realized I was not going to be a one genre director and, surprisingly, the leap from heavy drama to dark comedy was pretty easy. Acting, directing, and producing...not so much. But I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
There is so much for me to love and be proud of as a director and first time actor with "Death (And Disco Fries)", but what I love most about it is that no one expected it. Some people who don't know me personally had no idea I was even funny. I'm glad I got to show them I was. But even so, it's confounded fans of "The Weekend" and, in a weird way, that makes me happy. I don't want to be a predictable filmmaker. I would love for people to never know what to expect next but always leave them with something special.
This is the second in what I plan to be my trilogy of short films before I move on to making features. My third film, "Sis", perfectly bookends the three and will return to the personally inspired dramatic themes that I explored in "The Weekend".
But for now...you get a comedy.
In a world of great social change and movies that reflect such change, I hope "Death (And Disco Fries)" finds a place amongst audiences and they see it for what it is. A quirky little movie about life, love, death, and disco fries.

About the filmmaker
By Dennis Cahlo
Dennis Cahlo began his life on Staten Island, or what most New Yorkers call "The Armpit Of New York". Quickly realizing after 20 years of living there that he didn't fit in, Dennis moved to Manhattan in late 1999 and toured the world with his band The Realistics. They fought too much, never made it in the biz, and eventually broke up but not before leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Dennis then meandered for many years until he picked up photography which eventually became his main vocation and inevitably led to the moving image. In late 2015 Dennis made a quiet, low budget short film called "The Weekend" based on actual events that happened to him and it went on to win 35 awards and was accepted into 45 film festivals. Seeing that this might be something he should continue to do, he followed up "The Weekend" with "Death (And Disco Fries)" a light hearted and touching romantic comedy that he wrote, directed, produced, and stars in. It is currently making the rounds on the festival circuit. What's in store next for Dennis? Who knows. But it's bound to be good.
