About

TJ Norris is a Texas-based multidisciplinary artist whose career spans over three decades of exploration into the intersection of humankind, technology, and the evolving urban landscape. Educated at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design and the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, Norris employs a distinctive aesthetic filter—often rooted in the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi or the Surrealist "exquisite corpse" technique—to capture the friction between the natural and the manufactured. His lens-based and installation work is characterized by an immersive approach to time and space. Notable cinematic projects include the early short auto-porto-matic (1993), curated by Cheryl Dunye for DCTV’s Lookout Festival, and the ambitious 2-channel installation Infinitus (2008). The latter, a 72-minute black-and-white feature, reimagined the gallery experience by projecting onto the ceiling, inviting viewers to engage with the work from custom-designed lounges. Since 2021 Norris’ films have been included in film festivals such as: East Village NY Film Festival (NY), Aperture Festival (NC), Faba Films (GA), and Absurd Film Festival (Milan) where he received the award for Best Arthouse...
