Filmmaker's Note
Time was originally made for the Liverpool film night short film competition. I had a month to shoot and edit before the deadline. I work fulltime as a welder so I had to produce everything in my spare time. This wasn't so easy on a zero/tiny budget. I had only been living in Liverpool for two months so it was a good way to learn the city and discover filming locations. To my surprise I found cast and crew easily through a local filmmakers meet up group (Liverpool filmmakers hangout). Within two weeks I was ready to film, until the day before we were due to shoot the camera operator decided to drop out, luckily one of the other crew was able to jump in at short notice. Then I couldn't get permission to film in a hospital until after the shoot dates so I had to change the location to a bedroom right at the last moment. Filming was a brain twister too as I had to imagine how all the scenes would look in reverse as well as how each shot and transition would fit together backwards in the final edit. We filmed everything normally then reversed it all in post, it took some working out but it all worked out brilliantly in the end. We were even sneaky and managed to use the same actor to play the son and the young Arthur. We had to dress him in the older actors cloths and stuff them with pillows then slowly remove an item in every scene until he became the younger version at the end. we even gave him a mullet style 60s wig which we had to cut shorter in every scene, so when reversed in post it would appear to grow longer.
