I Keep Losing It

Poster for I Keep Losing It, a Surreal short film, directed by Vick Zamfolini, on The Short Film Show

Synopsis

A surreal and intimate short film about a young woman entering her own subconscious, where she meets two versions of herself: her bittersweet childhood self and an idealized Barbie-like alter ego shaped by fantasy, performance, and projection. Through humor, chaos, vanity, and emotional drama, the film becomes a playful self-portrait of a mind that keeps losing itself — theatrically, femininely, and not entirely seriously.

Filmmaker's Note

An intimate little essay on the strange journey of entering my own head and meeting two versions of myself living there.

One is my childhood self: bittersweet, irreverent, curious and innocent.

The other is an idealized version of me, dressed in a Barbie-inspired skin, also born from a real image, but filtered through fantasy, performance, and projection.

Together, they meet inside a fragment of my subconscious; a small film built to translate the chaos, humor, vanity, sensitivity, and drama of my inner world. A playful attempt to illustrate my very specific talent for losing my head, quite often and quite theatrically.

From these characters, I created a universe that carries my aesthetic and visual language as a director: surreal, feminine, slightly macabre, emotionally heightened, and not entirely serious - even when it is.

I hope you enjoy it, and don’t lose your head over it.
